My father, generosity incarnate
My father is generosity incarnate. Whether it was to lend a hand, or a fishing pole; to share some time and knowledge; to gift a filet of smoked fish or a plate of cookies—these were all his trademarks. His generosity was remarkably ordinary, lived out in the day-to-day attentiveness to the present, and to those around him.

Seek Wisdom that Comes from Above like Sunlight and Rain
Jesus’ admonition to not be anxious is directly linked to his warning against greed. His challenge is to see the world through a lens of generosity, abundance, of giving and receiving gifts.

Who among you is wise?
Herein lies the mystery and the joy of the incarnation—Divinity entering the atmosphere to breathe our air, God with us—and not only us humans, but ALL of creation. The good news of the gospel is not meant for humanity alone.

Disturbance Regimes
how might we allow the Spirit to move, like the flame of a controlled prairie fire, or the felling of hollow timber by a strong wind? Are there inherited belief systems chafing around your heart? Or perhaps you keep coming up against a boundary that no longer makes sense. What might the Spirit say about such constrictions? What might we allow her to do?

The waters that carry us
I love this image of Jesus on the water because it hearkens back to the beginning, when the breath of God moved over the deep. When the divine brought forth the cosmos by Spirit moving, hovering, streaming across water–dividing the waters above from the waters below; forming and reforming earth elements, from the void.

Look - here is water
This question, “What is to prevent me from being baptized?” is meant to be rhetorical, yet if we ask it seriously, it becomes apparent that there are many potential barriers to baptism at play in the world—including, or especially, toxic waters.

Love compels us forward
God acts in and as Love incarnate when we love our neighbors as ourselves, when we seek to be reconciled to one another, when we remain alert and ready to forgive others and ourselves. For forgiveness is the companion to love.

God’s Response to Oppressions
God’s response to fear and oppression is to draw the lost back into community, feed the hungry so they can think about something other than numbing the pain, cover and protect those who find themselves exposed to inhospitable conditions.
